Abnormalities of the right hepatic, cystic, and gastroduodenal arteries, and of the bile-ducts

Abstract: HUMAN beings are singularly alike in their general anatomical construction ; yet when we come to investigate one particular region with more detail it is surprising how frequently we meet with variations of one sort or another. More especially does this apply to the vascular system, and in no region more than to the liver. This is, I think, generally appreciated by anatomists. There are, however, variations in the excretory ducts of the liver almost as frequently, and anatomists have not given the attention to… Show more

“…This can only be established with certainty by demonstrating the valves of Heister in the aberrant duct. There have been four reports of a double cystic duct as in Case 2 (Chilimoniuk 1976, Perelman 1961, Flint 1922, Paul 1947, but this anomaly was not encountered in the 1200 dissections reviewed by Kune & Sali (1980). Our two patients may both have the same anomaly, since the upper extent of the aberrant duct was not fully explored in Case 1.…”

“…The anatomy of hepatic artery and its variants, have been extensively described in the literature 9,20,21,22,23 and nowadays the most frequently used is the Michels's classification 9 even if Michel's description is an anatomical classification having nowadays less relevance to modern surgical practice than in the past. Michels described 10 types of configuration for hepatic arteries vasculature, by including the normal anatomy in type 1 and gathering all other types of variants in types 2 -10.…”
