Ability of European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) to digest rendered animal fats from fish, poultry and mammals

Abstract: This study evaluates the in vivo apparent digestibility coefficients (ADC) of rendered animal by‐product fats in European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) juveniles. Diets contained fish oil (FOd), poultry fat (PFd) or mammal fat (MFd), from rendering animal by‐products, at 140 g/kg. Macronutrient and fatty acids ADCs were evaluated in quadruplicate tanks with fifteen 100 g fish. While total lipids ADCs (88%–90%) were unaffected, individual fatty acids ADC varied significantly among diets. Monounsaturated fatty … Show more

“…Numerous authors pointed it out, the substitution of FM by PBM resulted in attenuated growth performance in different species due to inferior feed intake, low levels of dietary lysine and methionine, high lipid contents but relatively free PA (20:5n‐3) and DHA (22:6n‐3) that lead to steatosis in hepatocytes with an irregular shape (Campos et al, 2019; Fuertes et al, 2013; NRC, 2011; Sabbagh et al, 2019; Zhu et al, 2011). Galkanda‐Arachchige et al (2019) postulated that copious freshwater fish species tolerate PBM in the diet compared to marine fish species without an issue.…”

“…Seafood is a respected portion of human food, because of it's contented of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), besides protein (Pezeshk et al, 2015, Kazeml and Rezael 2015, FAO 2018and Houessou et al, 2019. PUFA of these products have developed attention because of the protection of human cardiovascular (Ozogul et al, 2006, Campos et al, 2019and Hematyar et al, 2019.
