Aberrations of a multipass matrix system

Abstract: A three-objective multipass matrix system has been theoretically analyzed with respect to the aberrations of the third order. An expression has been derived in the three-dimensional coordinate system relating the position of a point in the output slit to that of a point in the input slit, depending on the construction peculiarities of the system given and the parameters of the matrix of intermediate images. Conditions of image focusing upon the input slit and astigmatism compensation have been derived. Relatio… Show more

“…As for the previously published matrix systems [7], the promising version of the multipass four-objective matrix system is characterized by very small aberration distortions. The aberrations were analysed as normally adopted in spectroscopy, that is, in a device in which the entrance and exit openings are made in the form of slits [9]. When the numbers of rows and columns in the image matrix relate as the sides of its elementary cell, the images are completely focused at the exit and the astigmatism is compensated for.…”
