Abelson antigen is expressed on hematopoietic spleen colony-forming cells from mice carrying the Av-2S virus sensitivity gene.

Abstract: Abelson antigen is a cell-surface determinant specifically induced by the Abelson murine leukemia virus (A-MuLV); this antigen is also expressed on uninfected bone marrow of BALB/c mice. Antisera that contained antibody to Abelson antigen were cytotoxic for the spleen colony-forming cells (CFU-S) of adult bone marrow from BALB/c mice. Absorption tests with appropriate tissues and direct cytotoxic tests with bone marrow CFU-S from several mouse strains confirmed that the sensitivity of BALB/c CFU-S to lysis by … Show more

“…This antigenic determinant is also present on bone marrow cells of uninfected BALB/c mice. Its expression in uninfected mice has been correlated with genetic sensitivity to A-MuLV lymphoma induction (22) and with certain states of hematopoietic differentiation (18). We investigated the synthesis of gag fusion proteins and the expression of AL antigen in clonal lines of A-MuLV lymphoma cells that were grown in vivo in genetically distinguishable host mice.…”

“…ROTTER ET AL. Risser et al described an A-MuLV-related antigen that had a normal BALB/c counterpart in hematopoietic tissues of uninfected mice (16,17). We previously compared their data with data from our laboratory on the one known A-MuLV-encoded protein, P120, and its congeners and questioned whether their antigen is encoded by the A-MuLV genome (27).…”

“…However, endogenous murine leukemia virus expression is for the replication genes. The tissue specificity of endogenous AMV expression is similar to the expression ofAbelson antigen on murine hematopoietic cells (25).…”
