“…The incidence of donor site hematoma has been reported to be lower when a transverse or horizontal incision is utilized as compared with the smaller periumbilical incision. 25 Similar to other reports, we did not find malignancy a contraindication to the use of fat grafting, 11,26 although we did consider this a contraindication to the use of a facelift incision when malignancy was suspected on the basis of preoperative fine needle aspiration cytology. The use of FAT did not confound postoperative surveillance in cases of malignancy because FAT has distinct imaging characteristics from normal or pathological tissue that is best appreciated on magnetic resonance imaging.…”

“…We now use an abdominal binder to facilitate apposition of the dead space for the first postoperative week and discharge patients to home with a closed drainage system. Our incidence of short-term donor site complications is higher than others have reported 12,13,25,26 and may be due to differences in the volume of FAT harvested, as well as the size of the incision. The incidence of donor site hematoma has been reported to be lower when a transverse or horizontal incision is utilized as compared with the smaller periumbilical incision.…”

“…The fat grafts may be inhibitory to heterotopic bone formation. Dennis J Kantanen discussed the use of abdominal fat harvest and augmentation in maxillofacial surgery [5]. They described it as relatively inexpensive, safe, and readily available.…”

“…More than 100,000 breast reconstructions after mastectomy, and over 200,000 maxillofacial surgeries were performed in 2015 alone and it is predicted that there will be more than 12,000 new cases of soft-tissue sarcomas in the USA in 2016 [9,67]. The current treatment for many of these conditions is autologous lipotransfer, a procedure involving collecting fat tissue from a patient, minimally manipulating the resultant lipoaspirate and relocating it to the site of reconstruction [68][69][70][71]. Although used widely, reports show that there is extensive variability of longterm lipotransfer graft survival, due to unpredictable degrees of resorption and tissue volume loss that can range from 20 to 90% [32,72,73].…”
