Abstract: BackgroundBiopsy of the temporal artery is considered fundamental to making the diagnosis of temporal arteritis. Besides carrying a significant false negative rate owing to skip lesions, the procedure has a small risk of significant complications including facial nerve injury1, scalp necrosis2 and stroke3.
