AACVD synthesis of catalytic gold nanoparticle‐modified cerium(IV) oxide thin films

Abstract: Co‐deposition of Ce(dbm)4 and NH4AuCl4 precursors in acetone at 500 °C via AACVD results in deposition of crystalline CeO2 thin films containing/decorated with metallic gold. These particles are estimated to be ∼ 70 nm in size via optical methods. Preliminary testing of catalytic activity showed the materials were surprisingly catalytically active given the very small amounts of gold present and the large estimated particle size, although the presence of smaller catalytically active particles could not be disc… Show more

“…Aerosol assisted (AA) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a versatile additive synthetic method used previously to obtain non-modified (e.g., WO 3 ) or metal/MOX modified MOXs (e.g., Pt/WO 3 , Fe 2 O 3 /WO 3 ) [11,13]. Additionally, recently, the AACVD of cerium oxide from Ce (dbm) 4 has been proved as a strategy to overcome the low volatility of traditional cerium CVD precursors [17]. In this work, however, we achieve the AACVD of cerium oxide from Ce (acac) 3 precursor and use this route to synthesize cerium oxide-tungsten oxide core-shell nanowires in a two-step process performed directly on silicon-based micromachined platforms.…”
