A ZigBee and RFID hybrid system for people monitoring and helping inside large buildings

Abstract: This article refers to a system that combines ZigBee and RFID technologies for monitoring people behavior when moving inside a building. The RFID part of our system consists of a set of detector placed at strategic points. To accomplish this detection goal the visitors of the building have to be provided with a RFID tag either active or passive. The ZigBee wireless subsystem will send the information generated by the detectors to the main computer. The movements of all and every one of the attendees will be fo… Show more

“…The introduction of ERISs (Emergency response information systems) has been suggested to enhance emergency response operations [43]. Another system in real-time building monitoring technologies concerns sensor units and communication network based on wireless Zig-Bee which can also be used in evacuation situations [44][45][46][47], such as those for construction elevator security system [48] or patient localization and environmental monitoring [49]. Localization data can be elaborated by different algorithms [32] in order to give information or stimuli to people evacuating (e.g., appropriate evacuation routes) [50][51][52][53][54].…”

“…MCU module uses micro-controller chip STC89C52, completes the mission of data processing and overall controlling; RFID reader uses 13.56MHz high-frequency card reader chip MF RC522 [4], communicates with MCU through SPI interface. Its main function is to sense the status of the card; ZigBee module uses CC2530F256 chip which is based on IEEE802.15.4 protocol and uses ZigBee2007/ PRO stack, its operating frequency is 2.4GHz [5].…”

“…International Conference on Mechatronics, Electronic, Industrial and Control Engineering (MEIC 2015) nodes have the ability to be expanded. The ZigBee protocol in the 2.4 GHz band is suitable for small-scale data communication; the data transmission rate is low and the distribution range is small with a low cost association [6][7][8][9].…”
