A Yellow Lead-Free Pavement Marking Paint Based on Hybrid Dye-Clay Nanopigment: Morphological, Thermomechanical, and Photophysical Properties

Abstract: This study utilized a yellow hybrid dye-clay nanopigment (DCNP) in a paint formulation to prepare a lead-free, eco-friendly pavement marking paint as an alternative to the conventional lead chromate (PbCrO4) paints. Two paint formulations based on DCNP and PbCrO4 were fabricated using a mechanical mixing method followed by sonication. The paint films were obtained via solution casting. The morphological property investigation demonstrated that the DCNP was well dispersed in the polymeric paint film with the fo… Show more

“…The tensile strength and Young’s modulus of pure PMMA films were compared with PMMA films containing pristine and organo clay-based CV nano pigments [ 29 , 30 ] ( Table 5 ). The tensile strength and Young’s modulus of PMMA films containing organo Mt and Bent were higher than PMMA films containing pure PMMA films and PMMA films containing pristine Mt and Bent-based CV nano pigments.…”

“…Improvement in the tensile strength and Young's modulus of PMMA films after adding CV, pristine, and organo clay-based nano pigments indicates better resistance against tensile stress and better stiffness. The tensile strength and Young's modulus of pure PMMA films were compared with PMMA films containing pristine and organo clay-based CV nano pigments [29,30] (Table 5). The tensile strength and Young's modulus of PMMA films containing organo Mt and Bent were higher than PMMA films containing pure PMMA films and PMMA films containing pristine Mt and Bent-based CV nano pigments.…”

“…With this in mind, a less flexible feature and/or more friction between the molecular chains of the epoxy matrix is procured by the Pr-TA-ZIF8@MS presence in comparison with EP/Pr-ZIF8@MS and EP/TA-ZIF8@MS above the T g . Concerning the fact that the loss modulus shows the coating capability for energy dissipation through heat, 67 the EP/Pr-TA-ZIF8@MS possesses lower energy dissipation and/or higher energy storage than the two others on account of more perceptible interfacial interactions. These results evidence the interesting viscoelastic behavior of the nanocomposites induced by the inhibitor-loaded nanoparticles rather than the Neat EP and EP/ZIF8@MS samples.…”

“…Clays and clay minerals have many industrial applications such as ceramics [12,13], paper coatings [14,15], pesticides [16], paints [17,18], pharmaceuticals [19,20], agriculture [21,22], construction industry [23], ion exchangers, separators, plastics [24][25][26], cosmetics [27], insulations [28], and electrical applications. Clay minerals can also be used as a good adsorbent for water purification due to lamellar structure, high cation exchange capacity, pore size distribution, and large surface area [29].…”
