A Working Integrated Model for the Diffusion of Construction Innovation

Abstract: Construction industry is said to be low in innovation and adoption of innovations is necessary to gain competitive advantage in a liberalized and globalized marketplace. This study investigated the factors that influenced the diffusion of construction innovations and developed an integrated framework to improve the diffusion process. A conceptual model was developed to guide the study and the modification of a questionnaire used in previous study of similar nature. The dependent variable was extent of diffusio… Show more

“…Although Roger's DOI theory has been applied in ICT diffusion and adoption studies in construction (see Songip et al, 2013;Daud et al, 2013;Ibem and Laryea, 2015 for examples), it has been criticized for not considering the influence of market and industry characteristics on adoption decisions by firms. Consequently, the TOE model developed by Tornatzky and Fleischer in 1990 seeks to address the inadequacies of the Roger's DOI theory (Teo et al, 2009;Oliveira and Martins;2011).…”

“…Architects usually lead the initial decisions, if necessary, together with consultants and vendors (Garmston et al , 2012). Concerning the facade product innovations, as the technical attributes of a product innovation affect its adoption (Songip et al , 2013), providing proper producers'/vendors' input during the “research-collection-analysis” step of the architect may facilitate adoption of innovations.…”
