A wideband technique for micro-ranging in OTHR

Abstract: A method for utilizing wideband transmissions (>100 kHz) in OTHR is proposed. The technique involves the aggregation of multiple narrow band signals into a wideband composite through digital synthesis. The multi-channel signal is received digitally and after normal correlation and Doppler processing is recombined using Whitehead-Malek's phasefrequency technique to provide an orthogonal micro-ranging dimension. The technique is described, and then modeled in an attempt to gauge its effectiveness. The demanding … Show more

“…Currently, development of decameter ionospheric radio communication systems is on the way to increasing the speed of information transmission [1][2][3][4][5][6]. When using broadband signals in the decameter range, the frequency dispersion has a significant effect on the signal [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. Thus, due to the frequency dispersion, at different frequencies wideband signals have different propagation delays.…”
