A web-based overview, systematic review and meta-analysis of pancreatic anastomosis techniques following pancreatoduodenectomy

Abstract: The proposed online overview can be used as an interactive platform, for uniformity in reporting anastomotic techniques and for educational purposes. The meta-analysis showed no significant difference in POPF rate between pancreatic anastomosis techniques.

“…In addition, a recently published RCT investigating outcomes of patients at high risk for POPF (C-FRS > 6) undergoing PD with PG versus PJ, showed similar rates of pancreatic resection related complications between two groups of patients, though among patients undergoing PG an higher rate of serious complications and an increased POPF related complication burden were observed [25]. Similarly, two of the most recent and updated metanalyses on this issue showed differences marginally/not statistically significant in terms of POPF rates following PG and PJ [26,27]. These controversial results may be partially due to heterogeneity in POPF definition, with about 50% of available RCT not using the definition recommended by the ISGPF.…”

“…Several other studies aimed to improve the outcomes by prevention or prediction of postoperative pancreatic fistula [32,[39][40][41]. Although these studies have led to an improved quality of care worldwide, pancreatic fistula still remains one of the most feared complications after pancreatic surgery.…”
