A Wavelet Threshold Denoising-Based Imbalance Fault Detection Method for Marine Current Turbines

Abstract: Blade imbalance fault caused by the marine organisms is considered as the most important fault in marine current turbines. Therefore, it is important to detect the fault accurately and quickly to mitigate its effect, minimize the downtime, and maximize the productivity. Imbalance fault detection methods using generator stator current signals have attracted attentions due to their low cost, operability and stability compared to the ones using vibration analysis. However, it is difficult to extract the fault sig… Show more

“…9, each PV cell/module is independently connected with a DC/AC converter for undertaking both MPPT control and PV power generation. This topology improves the PV system efficiency and does not require any DC/DC converter, which is widely used as micro inverters for achieving MPPT at single PV cell [25], [35], [36]. However, the control of the DC/AC converter is more complicated, and the overall system cost is still higher than the centralized PV system.…”

“…The literature [12] detects blade imbalance faults based on the rotational frequency by applying the Hilbert transform (HT) to the current as well as the power signal of the wind turbine. In [13] , an offline parameter setting based on wavelet threshold denoising, HT and principal component analysis were used to detect MCT blade faults. The proposed method in this paper selects a valid IMF reconstruction signal by performing EEMD decomposition of the filtered MCT mode squared signal.…”

“…[12][13][14] Consequently, early fault diagnosis in marine-turbine (MT) power generators is important for avoiding critical conditions and for assuring the safe functioning of these power generation units and uninterrupted power supply. [15][16][17] Condition monitoring methods for marine current power systems may be developed either in the time domain or in the frequency domain. 18,19 In this article, the problem of fault diagnosis for MT power generation units is treated in time domain with the use of a flatness-based disturbance observer.…”
