A Water-Wave Broadcast Scheme for Emergency Messages in VANET

Abstract: Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is an emerging new technology and a promising platform for the intelligent transportation system. The most important application of VANET is disseminating emergency messages to drivers in case of dangerous events. The effectiveness depends on the design of a broadcast scheme. A simple broadcast scheme encounters many problems such as broadcast storm, connection hole, building shadow, and intersection problems. In this paper, we propose an efficient broadcast scheme that simulat… Show more

“…Vehicular networks can be used for effective monitoring of environmental conditions and social activities in urban areas, playing an important role in urban sensing [12,71]. Urban sensing applications can be further potentialized when smartphone capabilities taken onboard can be used complementarily with VANET sensors [36,40]. In this context, the design of a Vehicular Sensor Network (VSN) introduces novel and challenging issues, which are considerably different from traditional wireless sensor networks, thus requiring innovative solutions.…”

“…It is a promising application-oriented network deployed along a roadway for 1) vehicular safety-related applications such as collision warning systems, road condition warning, lane-changing assistance [1,2], 2) transportation efficiency-related applications such as traffic light control, vehicle navigation [3,4] and 3) entertainment applications. Unlike conventional ad hoc wireless types of networks, a VANET may be required to deal with some new issues caused by the road traffic environment.…”

“…Open-air environments need many sensor nodes to cover a large area whereas fewer sensor nodes are needed in indoor environments in a sensor network [4,5]. High number sensors are deployed in the industrial environment to enhance coverage, fetch live data and take precise decisions [6]. Lots of potential applications of wireless sensor networks make wireless sensor networks a fast growing market [7,8].…”
