A virtual reality simulator for training endodontics procedures using manual files

Abstract: This paper describes a virtual reality simulator for training endodontics operations using manual files. The simulator consists of a custom 4DOF haptic device for tracking and force feedback. The built device can simulate the kinematic behaviour of the files during endodontic surgery. During the simulation, the movements the user does with the manual files are tracked and at the end are displayed by a custom-made visualization tool. This tool shows the forces applied during the procedures, the direction and th… Show more

“…Common voxel structures include cubes, spheres or other shapes, as shown in Figure 3. Because cube is the easiest method for structure division, researchers mostly use cube structure to divide voxels and generate corresponding volume models [8,9] proposed a method to voxelize the mesh model by using the structure of the octree. This method calculates the distance from the triangle to the center of the voxel.…”

“…These virtual processes integrate real parameters and units, which are very effective in contributing knowledge to users. With a complete virtual environment, reliable design criteria and key points in quality maintenance can be given, in this way the virtualization of the equipment becomes a very useful and effective tool for maintenance and training processes [10]. A specialized virtual environment working in real time, can provide critical and high priority information of a process [11].…”
