Abstract: We report the mean metallicity and absolute magnitude of RR Lyrae stars in a sample of 37 globular clusters, calculated via the Fourier decomposition of their light curves and ad hoc semi-empirical calibrations, in an unprecedented homogeneous approach. We fit various colour--magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of the high-latitude Galactic globular clusters NGC\,5024 (M53), NGC\,5053, NGC\,5272 (M3), NGC\,5466, and NGC\,7099 (M30) by isochrones from the Dartmouth Stellar Evolution Database and Bag of Stellar Tracks and Isochrones for $\alpha$--enrichment [$\alpha$/Fe]$=+0.4$. For the CMDs, we use data sets from {\it Hubble Space Telescope}, {\it Gaia}, and other sources utilizing, at least, 25 photometric filters for each cluster. We obtain the following characteristics with their statistic uncertainties for NGC\,5024, NGC\,5053, NGC\,5272, NGC\,5466, and NGC\,7099, respectively: metallicities [Fe/H]$=-1.93\pm0.02$, $-2.08\pm0.03$, $-1.60\pm0.02$, $-1.95\pm0.02$, and $-2.07\pm0.04$ dex with their systematic uncertainty 0.1 dex; ages $13.00\pm0.11$, $12.70\pm0.11$, $11.63\pm0.07$, $12.15\pm0.11$, and $12.80\pm0.17$ Gyr with their systematic uncertainty 0.8 Gyr; distances (systematic uncertainty added) $18.22\pm0.06\pm0.60$, $16.99\pm0.06\pm0.56$, $10.08\pm0.04\pm0.33$, $15.59\pm0.03\pm0.51$, and $8.29\pm0.03\pm0.27$ kpc;reddenings $E(B-V)=0.023\pm0.004$, $0.017\pm0.004$, $0.023\pm0.004$, $0.023\pm0.003$, and $0.045\pm0.002$ mag with their systematic uncertainty 0.01 mag; extinctions $A_\mathrm{V}=0.08\pm0.01$, $0.06\pm0.01$, $0.08\pm0.01$, $0.08\pm0.01$, and $0.16\pm0.01$ mag with their systematic uncertainty 0.03 mag, which suggest the total Galactic extinction $A_\mathrm{V}=0.08$ across the whole Galactic dust to extragalactic objects at the North Galactic pole. The horizontal branch morphology difference of these clusters is explained by their different metallicity, age, mass-loss efficiency, and loss of low-mass members in the evolution of the core-collapse cluster NGC\,7099 and loose clusters NGC\,5053 and NGC\,5466.

We present a CCD VI time-series analysis of the globular cluster NGC 6139 and its variable star population. Using the astrometric data available in Gaia-DR3 we performed a membership analysis that enabled the construction of a clean Colour-Magnitude Diagram (CMD). Variable stars in the field of the cluster reported by Gaia-DR3 and newly discovered ones in this paper are classified and their membership is critically evaluated. We report two cluster member RRc (V12, V15) and four SR (V13, V14, V17, V18) not previously detected and assign variable names to V11 and V16 detected by Gaia as they proof to be cluster members. Light curves and periods for non-member Gaia eclipsing binaries, semi regular variables and newly detected RR Lyrae stars are provided. Fourier decomposition of the light curves of the cluster member RRab and RRc stars leads to the values [Fe/H]=−1.63 dex, and distance of 9.63±0.68 kpc. The Oosterhoff type II nature of the cluster is confirmed. We adopted the mean reddening E(B − V)=0.786 mag and performed a differential reddening analysis based on the dispersion of the red giant branch. The differential map allowed a mild correction of the CMD.

Photometric metallicities of fundamental-mode RR Lyr stars from Gaia G band photometry of globular-cluster variables

Photometric metallicity formulae of fundamental-mode RR Lyr (RRab) stars are presented using globular-cluster data exclusively. The aim is to check whether this selection may help increasing the overall accuracy of the fits and eliminating the systematic bias of the photometric results, namely that they tend to overestimate [Fe/H] of the most metal-poor variables. The G band time-series data available in the Gaia DR3 archive and a new compilation of the published spectroscopic globular cluster [Fe/H] values on a uniform solar reference metallicity scale are utilized. We have derived a new [Fe/H]phot − P, φ31 formula, and have diagnosed that no significant increase in the accuracy of the fit can be achieved using non-linear or multiparameter formulae. The best result is obtained when different formulae are applied for variables with Oosterhoff (Oo)-type I and II properties. However, even this solution cannot eliminate the systematic bias of the results completely. This separation of the variables has also led to the conclusion that the photometric estimates of the [Fe/H] are less reliable for the Oo-type II variables than for the Oo-type I sample. Published [Fe/H]phot values and the results of the available photometric formulae in the Gaia G band are compared with the present results. It is found that each of the solutions yields very similar results, with similar accuracy and systematic biases. Major differences are detected only in the zero-points of the [Fe/H] scales, and these offsets are larger than differences in the accepted solar reference values would explain.
