A Very Simple Multiple Mixing Cell Calculation To Compute the Minimum Miscibility Pressure Whatever the Displacement Mechanism

Abstract: In this paper, an easily computable algorithm, allowing the calculation of the minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) whatever the displacement mechanism, is described. Such an algorithm is based on a multiple mixing cell calculation without any porous media. Only thermodynamic equations are taken into account i.e., a P/T flash routine is only required. Computational speed is from 15 to 80 times faster than using a commercial one-dimensional (1D) simulator, but the accuracy is the same.

“…determine the minimum miscibility pressure [57][58][59][60][61][62] (MMP) when pure CO 2 is injected in a synthetic crude oil, the composition of which is: 43 mol % of n-pentane þ 57 mol % of n-hexadecane. These two temperatures are As a consequence, the PPR78 model is able to predict these MMPs with high accuracy (4% deviation at T 1 and 0.7% deviation at T 2 ).…”

“…Phase equilibrium data of mixtures containing carbon dioxide are required for the design and the improvement of many industrial operations such as gas injection in reservoir fluids [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] or supercritical fluid extraction [8,9]. Moreover, reliable experimental data are needed for the development of predictive thermodynamic models [10][11][12][13], to compare equation of state (EOS) or to fit model parameters.…”

“…Experimental measurements include the use of a slim tube [6], a rising bubble apparatus (RBA) [7], multi-contact mixing-cell experiment [8,9] or the vanishing interfacial tension (VIT) technique [10][11][12][13]. Although necessary, experimental measurements are expensive, time-consuming and cumbersome.…”
