A Very Extensive Ludwig’s Angina

Abstract

Ludwig’s angina also known as ‘Morbus Strangularis’, is a grave, potentially fatal cellulitis, usually occurring in adults. Early diagnosis and immediate treatment planning could be a life saving procedure. Here, we report a case of wide spread odontogenic infection extending to the neck, chest, causing elevation of the oral cavity floor resulting in airway obstruction. Appropriate use of parenteral antibiotics, airway protection techniques and adequate surgical drainage of infection remains the mainstay of treatment, in advanced cases of Ludwig’s angina.
