A Versatile Analog Electronic Interface for Piezoelectric Sensors Used for Impacts Detection and Positioning in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) Systems

Abstract: Continuous monitoring of mechanical impacts is one of the goals of modern SHM systems using a sensor network installed on a structure. For the evaluation of the impact position, there are generally applied triangulation techniques based on the estimation of the differential time of arrival (DToA). The signals generated by impacts are multimodal, dispersive Lamb waves propagating in the plate-like structure. Symmetrical S0 and antisymmetrical A0 Lamb waves are both generated by impact events with different velo… Show more

“…If a sensor is installed on a robot, the robot's motion control [23] function can be used to predict its future positions. In general, there are various methods that can be used to determine the location of a specific object in space, but methods using a sensor mainly use a triangulation technique based on the estimation of the DTOA (differential time of arrival) [24]. User application provides the data necessary for the server to localize the device or enable the user to receive various services from the client [25].…”

“…There has been a significant amount of research aiming to improve the motor control of prosthetics including its tactile sensory feedback system. Efforts in this field have been focused on developing various types of tactile sensors (e.g., capacitive [6], resistive [7] and piezoelectric [8]), and on designing efficient interface electronics [9]. However, to our knowledge, no study has focused on the communication channel from sensors to the electrotactile stimulator.…”
