A variety of Helicobacter pylori strains colonize the stomach of non-bleeding Egyptian patients with upper gastrointestinal disorders

Abstract: Background: Chronic infection with Helicobacter pylori is associated with protean manifestations, which vary from no symptoms to multiple gastric diseases. Other H. pylori infections could provide protection against reflux esophagitis, and lower esophageal cancer. The current study aims to scan H. pylori strains that colonize the stomach of Egyptian patients with upper gastrointestinal disorders and its association with the endoscopic outcomes. Identification of H. pylori strains was done by PCR amplification … Show more

“…The prevalence of H. pylori infection in this study was higher in males than females and was statistically significant ( p = 0.00001), 17/43 (39.5%) of females versus 38/69 (55%) of males. This is matched with the previously investigated results in systemic meta‐analysis done on H. pylori 62,63 . In this study, the prevalence of H. pylori positive cases was correlated with the age of population.…”

“…In the study of Mi et al [ 88 ] using cagA typing and RAPD-PCR fingerprinting, H. pylori strain isolated from patients showed heterogenicity that were considered to indicate the incidence of multiple infections. Overall, the different clinical outcomes during H. pylori infection may be due to differences in H. pylori strains—this could act as a marker to predict H. pylori disease outcomes [ 89 ].…”
