A User Preference Model and a Query Language that allow Semantic Retrieval and Filtering of Multimedia Content

Abstract: 1 We present in this paper MP7QL, a powerful query language that we are developing for querying MPEG-7 descriptions, and a user preference model that allows for expressing preferences about every aspect of an MPEG-7 multimedia content description. The MP7QL queries may utilize the user preferences as context, thus allowing for personalized multimedia content retrieval. The user preference model supports multimedia Filtering and Search Preferences (FASP) that allow for expressing semantic preferences, preferenc… Show more

“…In [32], [33] an ontology-based methodology to open up the MPEG-7/21 usage environment for enriching user preferences by more complex semantics as expressed by domain ontologies is provided. The approach supports the complete functionality offered by the MPEG-7 semantic description scheme for multimedia content descriptions and respects all the MPEG-7/21 conventions.…”

“…Moreover, for building an effective query language the Filtering and Search description schemes originally offered by the standard still lack expressiveness. In [33] a complete model is proposed allowing to express preferences on every aspect of the MPEG-7 multimedia object descriptions.…”

“…It is based on the Web ontology language OWL and has been prototypically implemented in the DS-MIRF framework. Moreover, in [22] the system is extended by a Query language for MPEG-7 descriptions. Allowing the integration of domain knowledge into semantic MPEG-7 metadata an automatic relaxation of over-specified constraints is thus enabled.…”

“…Since X M L is inherently human readable, using X M L also provides intrinsic human readability of the queries formulated in M7QF. The MPEG-7 Query Language (MP7QL) [22] was proposed by TUC/MUSIC. The MP7QL has the MPEG-7 as the data model and allows for querying every aspect of an MPEG-7 multimedia content description.…”
