A universal approach to complete control in multi-channel optical structures

Abstract: The photon spin Hall effect can lead to a more general question that how to control all the light waves in a muti-channel structure (so called complete control). To address this problem in general and thoroughly, a theoretical approach was established in this paper. Guided by this approach, the complete controls in several complicated structures are realized theoretically or numerically. We also represent this approach with the form of representation theory. The important works reported recently in this area w… Show more

“…From the view of CWI theory [13][14][15][16], the total field induced by the magnetic dipolar source in our configuration can be divided into two component fields, namely H x induced field and H y induced field. Figure 4 shows the E z field distribution excited by different source components, (a) for H x , (b) for H y .…”

“…The most popular theoretical explanation for the mechanism of PSHE, proposed by Bliokh et al views the spin of the incident beam as the key factor of PSHE, which determines the exact photonic edge state to be excited and the exact direction the surface wave propagates along just like its QSHE counterpart [2,3,12]. More recently, a new interpretation called component wave interference (CWI) theory shows an alternative view, regarding the unidirectional propagation as the consequence of the interference between the spatial odd and even modes excited by different components of the incident beam [13][14][15][16]. This theory provides us with a direct and simple approach to analyze and manipulate PSHE, which we shall elaborate in detail in our later discussion.…”

“…It is believed that this unidirectionality is caused by the interference between spatial odd and even modes excited by different components of the incident light. Therefore, perfect unidirectionality can be achieved by modulating the polarization state of the incident light [25][26][27][28][29]. Based on CWI theory, a general method of multimode modulation in multichannel structure is established, and the complete control of SPP wave is realized by controlling the light source [29].…”
