In polarimetric radars, corresponding to the polarized antennas, exploiting waveform diversity along the polarization dimension becomes accessible. In this article, we aim to maximize the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of a polarimetric radar by optimizing the transmit polarimetric waveform, the power allocation on its horizontal and vertical polarization segments, and the receiving filters jointly, subject to separate (while practical) unit-modulus and similarity constraints. To mitigate the SINR sensitivity on Target-Aspect-Angle (TAA), the average Target-Impulse-Response Matrix (TIRM) within a certain (TAA) interval is employed as the target response, which leads to an average SINR as the metric to be maximized. For the formulated nonconvex fractional programming problem, we propose an efficient algorithm under the framework of the alternating optimization method. Within, the alternating direction method of multiplier (ADMM) is deployed to solve the inner subproblems with closed form solutions obtained at each iteration. The analysis on computational cost and convergence of the proposed algorithm is also provided. Experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, the robustness of the output SINR against the TAA uncertainty, and the superior performance of polarimetric power adaption.

This paper studies Flag sequences for lowcomplexity delay-Doppler estimation by exploiting their distinctive peak-curtain ambiguity functions (AFs). Unlike the existing Flag sequence designs that are limited to prime lengths and periodic auto-AFs, we aim to design Flag sequence sets of arbitrary lengths and with low (nontrivial) periodic/aperiodic auto-and cross-AFs. Since every Flag sequence consists of a Curtain sequence and a Peak sequence, we first investigate the algebraic design of zone-based Curtain sequence sets of arbitrary lengths. Our proposed design gives rise to novel Curtain sequence sets with ideal curtain auto-AFs and low/zero cross-AFs within the delay-Doppler zone of interest. Leveraging these Curtain sequence sets, two optimization problems are formulated to minimize the summed customized weighted integrated sidelobe level (SCWISL) of the Flag sequence set. Accelerated Parallel Partially Majorization-Minimization Algorithms are proposed to jointly optimize the transmit Flag sequences and matched/mismatched reference sequences stored in the receiver. Simulations demonstrate that our proposed Flag sequences lead to improved SCWISL and customized peak-to-max-sidelobe ratio compared with the existing Flag sequences. Additionally, our Flag sequences under Flag method exhibit Mean Squared Errors that approach the Cramér-Rao Lower Bound and the Sampling Bound at high signal-to-noise power ratios.

It has become an interesting topic for modern radar possessing capabilities of polarimetric measurement, high‐resolution imaging, and good delay‐Doppler resolution. The linear frequency modulation (LFM) scheme is widely used in radar systems as it can achieve both high Doppler tolerance and resolution. Based on the LFM scheme, a novel waveform is proposed, namely, the orthogonal double V‐linear frequency modulation (ODV‐LFM), which exhibits the capability to mitigate the influence of delay‐Doppler coupling and reduces the risk of false targets and ghosts in multiple‐target scenes. Based on the ODV‐LFM signal, a simultaneous polarimetric measurement method is proposed to obtain fully polarimetric information of the target. According to the unique chirp rate characteristic of the ODV‐LFM signal, the pointwise linear and non‐linear processing methods are proposed to enhance delay‐Doppler resolution, suppress sidelobes, and achieve high‐resolution imaging without substantially compromising the signal detection performance. Finally, simulated experiments are conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed waveform and methods.
