Abstract. It has been suggested that fracture-induced MHzkHz electromagnetic emissions (EME), which emerge from a few days up to a few hours before the main seismic shock occurrence permit a real-time monitoring of the damage process during the last stages of earthquake preparation, as it happens at the laboratory scale. Despite fairly abundant evidence, electromagnetic (EM) precursors have not been adequately accepted as credible physical phenomena. These negative views are enhanced by the fact that certain "puzzling features" are repetitively observed in candidate fractureinduced pre-seismic EME. More precisely, EM silence in all frequency bands appears before the main seismic shock occurrence, as well as during the aftershock period. Actually, the view that "acceptance of "precursive" EM signals without convincing co-seismic signals should not be expected" seems to be reasonable. In this work we focus on this point. We examine whether the aforementioned features of EM silence are really puzzling ones or, instead, reflect well-documented characteristic features of the fracture process, in terms of universal structural patterns of the fracture process, recent laboratory experiments, numerical and theoretical studies of fracture dynamics, critical phenomena, percolation theory, and micromechanics of granular materials. Our analysis shows that these features should not be considered puzzling.

Настоящая работа посвящена исследованию пространственно-временной локализа-ции деформации при прямом одноосном растяжении сильвинита с использованием ме-тода корреляции цифровых изображений и метода акустической эмиссии. Для реализа-ции схемы прямого одноосного растяжения использовано специальное реверсивное уст-ройство, в котором бетонируются образцы сильвинита. Последовательно сфотографиро-ванные изображения боковой поверхности образцов были использованы для восстанов-ления распределения полей компонент вектора перемещений и тензора деформаций на боковой поверхности образцов сильвинита при одноосном квазистатическом растяжении. В результате анализа полученных данных установлено, что процесс деформирования реализуется в виде двух последовательно следующих форм пространственно-временной локализации: системы эквидистантно расположенных стационарных очагов локализован-ной деформации и одиночной стационарной диссипативной локализованной структуры. Материал вне полос локализованной деформации находится в недеформированном состоянии, также в результате одноосного квазистатического растяжения наблюдаются как полосы локализованной деформации растяжения, так и сжатия. Переход от одной формы локализации к другой происходит в окрестности максимума напряжения и сопро-вождается резким уменьшением концентрационного параметра. Концентрационный па-раметр характеризует степень взаимодействия дефектов различных масштабных уров-ней посредством их упругих полей и может быть оценен по данным акустической эмис-сии. Анализ зависимости пространственного периода полос локализованной деформации от размера расчетной ячейки показал, что полосы локализованной деформации имеют самоподобное строение и процесс деформирования локализован по границам зерен минералов, слагающих образец. © ПНИПУ Ключевые слова:локализация деформации, акустическая эмиссия, прямое растяжение, концентрационный параметр, метод корреляции цифровых изображений  Пантелеев Иван

Analysis of Temporal Structures of Seismic Events on Different Scale Levels

A statistical model for describing the scaling of the distribution of inter-event times is described. By considering the diverse region seismicity (natural and induced) at different scale levels the self-similarity of the distribution has been determined. Significant deviations occur only in the area of maximum magnitude (maximum energy class). A comparison between the distribution of inter-event times at different scale levels and the most popular distributions of reliability theory has been carried out. The distribution of inter-event times for different scale levels is well approximated by the Weibull distribution. The Weibull distribution, with parameters which obey the scaling model and the Gutenberg-Richter law, have been tested.
