“…Based on the above situation, a new drug delivery system (DDS) is proposed, which can slowly and continuously release the drug or keep the drug at a constant release rate, and finally deliver the drug to the target location in the body (Patil et al, 2018 ; Zhou et al, 2020 ). Compared with traditional administration methods, DDS can prolong the therapeutic effect of drugs, reduce the number of medications, improve patient compliance, and reduce the systemic side effects of drugs (Ozeki et al, 2012 ; Wen et al, 2013 ; Prajapati et al, 2015 ; Liang et al, 2020 ; Malakinezhad et al, 2020 ; Ren et al, 2021 ; Tian et al, 2021 ; Zhang et al, 2021 ). At present, there are many kinds of new drug delivery systems, microsphere is one of the most common DDS.…”

“…Chemotherapy (using antitumor drugs) is one of the most common methods for treatment of various types of cancers, including breast cancer. [ 3 ] Amongst different types of antitumor drugs, paclitaxel (PTX) is a commonly used anticancer drug indicating activity against a wide variety of tumors including lung, ovarian, bladder, and metastatic breast cancer. [ 4,5 ] PTX has been considered as the most significant progress in tumor chemotherapy in recent decades according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI).…”

“…The field of nanomedicine has been rapidly expanding over the past decades [ 1 , 2 , 3 ], and liposomes were the first to reach the clinical application stage. The parenteral liposomal drug products currently on the market focus on the treatment of cancer through local delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs [ 4 ], fungal infections through local delivery of the antifungal drug amphotericin B [ 5 ], or pain management through prolonged epidural delivery of morphine [ 6 ].…”
