A two-component spot pricing framework for loss-rate guaranteed Internet service contracts

Abstract: The technological advances in recent years are allowing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide Quality of Service (QoS) assurance for traffic through their domains. This article develops a spot pricing framework for intra-domain expected bandwidth contract with'a loss based QoS guarantee. The framework accounts for both the cost and the risks associated with QoS delivery. A nonlinear pricing scheme is used in pricing for cost recovery; a utility based options pricing approach is developed for risk relate… Show more

“…Carlsson and Fullér [11] apply fuzzy methods to measure the level of decision uncertainties and did not price grid resources. Other notable literature [3,19] evaluated real options and applied it to spot pricing. Similarly, in [14], d'Halluin et al apply modern financial option pricing methods to network investment decision problem.…”

“…Learning from the Internet, network operators are now aware that pricing is needed not only to recover costs, but also as a method of control. Therefore, in the last five years, a whole series of research [3][4][5][6] has been done in the pricing and charging area. However, these works are more or less adapted to the third-generation solutions with various QoS guarantees.…”

“…Therefore, numerous papers have been published on Internet engineering and economics; they give a good overview and introduction to the various models and frameworks [7] . We refer the reader to references [3][4][5][6] for a more detailed and complete review of pricing schemes.…”
