A TRIZ-Integrated Conceptual Design Process of a Smart Lawnmower for Uneven Grassland

Abstract: Existing smart lawnmowers, while convenient to use, have significant limitations, such as a lack of manoeuvrability on uneven agricultural grassland (constraint 1), high charging frequency (constraint 2) and low local market penetration (constraint 3). Although the effectiveness of the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) has been demonstrated in several design studies, there also seems to be a lack of research addressing the design difficulties of smart lawnmowers using this method. With the use of the … Show more

“…This study elects to leverage TRIZ for concept selection due to its adaptability and established efficacy in a variety of domains. The TRIZ methodology has been referenced in numerous scholarly works [ 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 ] and involves the following procedural steps: Articulation of the engineering contradiction. Determination of system parameters pertinent to the engineering contradiction.…”

“…In our case, the identified contradictions were resolved using the separation principles. Additionally, some recommended inventive principles among the 40 inventive principles were determined and used to select the most effective solutions for product and practical issues (El-Haik & Mekki 2008;Kang, Ng & Liew 2022). This approach, based on TRIZ, enhanced the design attributes of the TEF by addressing the contradictions in TR specifications and identifying inventive principles.…”

“…The TEF was improved according to TRs for the structure, working function, and manufacturing process. The 'TRIZ Separation Principles', based on a specific criterion, were used in the TEF product design (Kang, Ng & Liew 2022), and are shown in Table 9. The inventive solution was determined after the contradiction TRs were analyzed using the 40 fundamental inventive principles.…”
