“…program. In response to feedback from an earlier pilot, one major revision to the expanded program was to incorporate a nutritional component to educate student-athletes on healthy eating habits (Reifsteck & Brooks, 2018). The enhanced healthy eater identity scores observed in the current sample support the potential benefits of incorporating nutritional education in student-athlete transition programs.…”

“…program was designed to address self-perceptions and motivation, which have been shown to foster continued physical activity and healthy eating (Strachan & Brawley, 2009;Teixeira, Carraça, Markland, Silva, & Ryan, 2012). Specifically, the program emphasizes the roles of self-identity and self-determined motivation in making healthy sport transitions (Reifsteck & Brooks, 2018;Reifsteck, Gill, & Labban, 2016). According to identity and self-determination theories, individuals are more likely to maintain physical activity and healthy eating when these behaviors are integrated into their identity and when motivated by self-determined reasons (e.g., enjoy physical activity, value nutrition) (Burke, Owens, Serpe, & Thoits, 2003;Gillison, Standage, & Skevington, 2006;Mata et al, 2009;Ryan, Williams, Patrick, & Deci, 2009;Strachan, Fortier, Perras, & Lugg, 2012).…”

“…Kidd et al (2018) reported that, "…our participants overwhelmingly felt their institution did not, but should have, provided extensive and readily-available pre-transition/transition services" (p. 130). Reifsteck and Brooks (2018) found that a half-day workshop for current college athletes that focused on assisting them with the transition from highly structured athletic activity to continuing physical activity throughout their lives was positively rated. Given that two participants in the current study reported struggling after their retirement due to the lack of structure, preparing college athletes to address this aspect of transitioning should be considered.…”

“…Within this premise, public interest in the use of complementary and alternative medicine has sharply increased as well. This trend could not fail to attract the attention of scientists from different specialties: physicians, psychologists, researchers, practitioners, and even philosophers who conducted several studies of the data obtained while using ancient East Asian techniques, both for normalizing psychosomatic disorders and for restoring physical condition, having received a vivid confirmation that these methods may effectively function as a healing art for warding off diseases, and enhancing the overall health state of the individual (Amirova, Cropley, & Theadom, 2017;Fuzhong & Harmer, 2014;Reifsteck & Brooks, 2018;West, Liang, & Spinazzola, 2017). Both the Reiki art and other Ancient Oriental self-healing techniques, as well as different recreational activities (various sports, dancing, reading), act as protective internal mechanism, producing a great beneficial effect (Ivanchenko & Zaika, 2017;Kovács, 2018;Rezaei & Khosroshahi, 2018).…”
