The October 2018 issue of the Journal of Mixed Methods Research (JMMR) includes a commentary, an editorial on the parameters for special issues in JMMR, an invited editorial from former editor Max Bergman about migration, and a theme issue devoted to the scaffolding of mixed methods research in migration and approaches for conducting cross-cultural comparisons. Commentary This issue's commentary, by Margarete Sandelowski (2018), addresses differences she and David Morgan (2018a) posit relative to the indistinguishability thesis of mixed methods research. Her commentary represents a rebuttal to Morgan's rebuttal (2018b) that he penned in response to Hammersley's commentary (2018) authored in response to Morgan's (2018a) full article critiquing the indistinguishability thesis. Sandelowski's commentary clarifies her position on the indistinguishability thesis and the use of the strong/weak binary in mixed methods research. Publication of this commentary aligns with our intent of encouraging dialogue about the compelling mixed methods research methodology issues of our time (Fetters & Molina-Azorin, 2018). Special Issues and JMMR This issue of JMMR contains a special focus on mixed methods research methodology integrated with migration studies. JMMR previously published two other special issues, on triangulation and mixed methods research (Mertens & Hesse-Biber, 2012) and using mixed methods research with marginalized populations (Sorde Marti & Mertens, 2014). As publication of special issues often generate questions regarding other potential special issues, we lay out in this issue guidelines for publishing special issues at JMMR (Molina-Azorin & Fetters, 2018).
