A tool-supported approach to engineering HTN planning models

Abstract: Our research concerns formal, expressive, objectcentred languages and tools for use in engineering domains for planning applications. In this paper we extend our recent work on an object-centred language for encoding precondition planning domains to a language called OCL h , designed for HTN planning. Domain encodings for HTN planners are particularly troublesome, because they tend to be used in knowledged-based applications requiring a great deal of 'domain engineering', and the abstract operators central to … Show more

“…The Graphical Interface for Planning with Objects (GIPO) (Simpson et al, 2007) is based on objectcentred languages OCL and OCL h . These formal languages exploit the idea that a set of possible states of objects are defined first, before action (operator) definition (McCluskey and Kitchin, 1998). This gives the concept of a world state consisting of a set of states of objects, satisfying given constraints.…”

“…GIPO provides editors and tools to support HTN planning as expressed in the OCL h language (McCluskey & Kitchin, 1998). In brief, GIPO allows the definition of methods which are actions that can be specified in terms of a composition of actions as defined for classical planning.…”
