A Three-Level Architecture for Distributed Web Information Systems

Abstract: Abstract. In this article we present a three-level architecture for distributed web information systems (WISs) based on media objects. We distinguish between a service level, a database level and an operational level. The media objects serve as a mediator between the service requested by users and the database. The operational level is based on communicating agents that realise the functionality of a distributed database.
