A three‐field monoisocentric inverse breast treatment planning technique without half‐beam blocking

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to introduce a three‐field monoisocentric inverse treatment planning method without half‐beam blocks for breast cancer radiation treatments. Three‐field monoisocentric breast treatment planning with half‐beam blocks limits the tangential field length to 20 cm. A dual‐isocenter approach accommodates patients with larger breasts, but prolongs treatment time and may introduce dose uncertainty at the matching plane due to daily setup variations. We developed a novel monoisocentric, th… Show more

“…Cunha et al . [ 19 ] used PC-ISO material to create a cylinder, resulting with better HU close to the water compared to our results (10 against 252), but the mechanical accuracy of our printed applicator was better comparing to their results, which was due to the differences between 3D printing technique accuracy. HU and density of printed material with FDM technique depend on choosing infill percentage.…”

“…In order to select a material, biocompatibility, serializable and homogenic printing product, and water equivalency (specially for TPS with TG-43 algorithm) for brachytherapy need to be considered. Most of the studies used PA, PLA, ABS, and PC-ISO as a material with fused deposition modeling (known as FDM) technique [ 19 , 21 , 29 , 39 , 40 ]. Resin is yet another material with different sub-types, including rigid resin, tough resin, elastic resin, flexible resin, and high-temp resin for different purposes, with almost the same density.…”

“…Freehand needles can be used as well, but it is difficult to implant them accurately at predefined angels and to a certain location. However, only a limited number of reports on the use of 3D technology in BT have been published up to date [14,15,17,20,21,30,31]. For intact cervical cancer, CTV-T HR D 90 dose of ≥ 85 Gy in 7 weeks leads to 3-year local control rates of > 86% in large size CTV-T HR and > 93% in intermediate size CTV-T HR .…”
