A Three Decade Mixed-Method Bibliometric Investigation of the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management

Abstract: This paper offers a comprehensive overview of IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management (IEEE TEM) from 1985 to 2017. The article employs a mixed method examination based on an indepth interview with the new editor regarding the challenges for the future of IEEE TEM, along with a bibliometric analysis of the journal. By using Web of Science Core Collection data, the analysis maps the knowledge produced and disseminated by the IEEE TEM, revealing the most cited papers; the most frequently occurring keywords a… Show more

“…Table 1 identifies the inputs and outputs of each of these analytical methods [69]. Next, quantity (production), quality (impact) and relationship [61,70], prolific authors' concentrations according to Lotka's Law [71,72], nucleus journals according to Bradford's Law [73][74][75][76][77][78], and highly cited articles according to the Hirsch index [79][80][81][82][83][84] will be analyzed by scientometry. In another phase, through the VOSviewer [85,86], analysis by co-authors at the level of affiliation with country/region, affiliation with institutions and affiliation with other authors will take place.…”

“…Our literature review is based on a bibliometric analysis of the bibliometric activity indicators [16] and the visualization of similarities (VOS) [17]. This method has been widely used across multiple study fields, demonstrating its effectiveness in synthesizing and representing high volumes of bibliographic data [15], [18], [19]. We developed a five-step process to explore NPD scientific production and present the results.…”

“…Furthermore, many emerging engineering issues, such as the increasing need for flexibility and the constant pressure for NPD's cost reduction, are heavily impacting on the strategic, marketing, and operational choices made by managers. As a result, on the one hand, an increasing number of management scholars consider today NPD a key element in their studies; on the other hand, engineering management journals are increasingly paying attention to NPD managerial issues [15]. Based on these considerations, along with the absence of a recently available literature review of the field [1]- [3], the present study focuses on the latest developments of the NPD research carried out in the field of business and management from 2008 to 2018.…”

“…First, authors used Bradford's Law at the level of journals to measure the concentration adjustment levels of geometric series order (Bulik, 1978 ; Morse and Leimkuhler, 1979 ; Pontigo and Lancaster, 1986 ; Swokowski, 1988 ; Kumar, 2014 ; Shelton, 2020 ). Looking at the concentration adjustment levels of geometric series order; the authors intended to identify a potential concentration journal hub specialized in entrepreneurial wellbeing (Andrade-Valbuena et al, 2019 ; Marzi et al, 2020 ; Vega-Muñoz et al, 2020 ).…”
