A Thin‐layer Chromatography Method for the Identification of Three Different Olibanum Resins (Boswellia serrata, Boswellia papyrifera and Boswellia carterii, respectively, Boswellia sacra)

Abstract: The TLC method developed allows unambiguous identification of three different olibanum samples (Boswellia papyrifera, Boswellia serrata, Boswellia carterii/Boswellia sacra). Evidence on the specific biosynthesis routes of these Boswellia species is reported.

“…The commonest method used for the preparation involves covering the resin in a muslin cloth or a wire mesh, and immersing it in boiling water for 15-30 min. Another method used employs soaking of frankincense in water overnight followed by filtration (Highet, 2006;Paul et al, 2012). However, most of the people now prefer to buy the readymade water extract available in the market.…”

“…Another method used is soaking the frankincense in water overnight followed by filtering. Some people add few drops of frankincense oil to water and use it (Nancy Healing, 2014; Enfluerage, 2014; Paul et al, 2012). However, most of the people now prefer to buy the readymade water extract available in the market.…”

“…For Trypan blue test, the cells were inoculated into 24-well plates at plating densities of 500,000 cells/well, and three wells were used for each treatment. All the processes were carried out in a vertical laminar flow chamber previously washed with 70% ethanol [14]. The EtAc extracts of I. vis and I. vul were dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO, 99.9%, HPLC grade), and then diluted 1000-folds with the already prepared media.…”
