A theory of dark pions

Abstract: We present a complete model of a dark QCD sector with light dark pions, broadly motivated by hidden naturalness arguments. The dark quarks couple to the Standard Model via irrelevant Z- and Higgs-portal operators, which encode the low-energy effects of TeV-scale fermions interacting through Yukawa couplings with the Higgs field. The dark pions, depending on their CP properties, behave as either composite axion-like particles (ALPs) mixing with the Z or scalars mixing with the Higgs. The dark pion lifetimes fal… Show more

“…We extend these calculations to three flavours when relevant. For ALPs near the ρ mass and above, virtual vector mesons can play an important role in determining amplitudes of certain decay channels [35,36], which are not included in our calculation. It would be interesting to extend their calculations while keeping track of κ in pseudoscalar and vector meson interactions.…”

“…However, for models with non-universal couplings to light quarks, as considered for example in Ref. [29], there may be significant differences in both the individual branching ratios and the corresponding distributions of the decay products.…”

“…Folded-SUSY sleptons [93] carry electroweak charges and can be discovered effectively at the LHC. In tripledtop constructions the Z portal can be the dominant connection to hidden-sector states [50,94] with electroweak charges. These states are often bound by the hidden color force, which in some cases leads to "quirky" dynamics, which we focus on in the following section.…”
