A technique for initiating cutaneous myiasis (flystrike) on sheep

Abstract: A technique for initiating artificial strikes on sheep using eggs or larvae of Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) under controlled conditions is described. A liver based implant provides protein for initial larval development. The technique has been found to produce viable strikes more reliably than other currently-used methods for the purpose of screening insecticides in controlled experiments.
