A technique for arthroscopic all-inside suturing in the wrist

Abstract: A technique for arthroscopic all-inside suturing in the wrist is presented. The procedure allows placement of the knot inside the joint without additional incisions. We have applied it in cases of dorsal, foveal and coronal tears of the triangular fibrocartilage. No special instrument is required apart from a Tuohy needle.

“…Proximal and complete tears are repaired with trans-osseous sutures or anchor sutures by reattaching the ligament to the ulnar fovea. Both open and arthroscopic-assisted techniques have been described for improving DRUJ stability (Atzei, 2009; Atzei et al, 2008; Badia and Jimenez, 2006; Boehringer et al, 2002; Corso et al, 1997; de Araujo et al, 1996; del Piñal et al, 2010; Estrella et al, 2007; Hermansdorfer and Kleinman, 1991; Mathoulin et al, 2005; Pederzini et al, 2007; Skie et al, 1997; Trumble et al, 1997; Yao et al, 2007; Zachee et al, 1993). The aim of this study was to assess the functional outcome and DRUJ stability objectively and subjectively after foveal reattachment of isolated proximal or complete ulnar-sided TFCC lesions with DRUJ instability after open or arthroscopically assisted repair.…”

“…Recently, some arthroscopy-guided SL ligament repairs have been introduced (del Piñal et al, 2010 and 2011; Mathoulin et al, 2011; Stuffmann et al, 2010). When feasible, the advantages of such minimally invasive surgeries are obvious.…”
