“…In this example, there could be a division of labor in which one SLP provides the majority of services to the children with SSDs whereas another works with the children who have autism. The services provided to children with SSDs could take place within a multitier system of support, which has been reported to be beneficial for a quick remediation of speech sound errors (Bruce, Lynde, Weinhold, & Peter, 2018;Mire & Montgomery, 2009;Swaminathan & Farquharson, 2018;Taps, 2008). Children with SSDs require the unique and highly specialized treatment of speech-language pathologists.…”

In fact, Bruce et al (2018) found that even when an IEP was required after a child received services within an MTSS framework, the length of time that they actually needed therapy was less.…”

“…In this way, these treatment sessions may actually take more time to plan and implement-since the timeline is bounded to only a few weeks of therapy. However, this service delivery model has been shown to help some children make progress in goals related to speech sound production, without ever needing an IEP (Bruce et al, 2018).…”
