A taxonomic revision of Miscanthus s.l. (Poaceae) from China

Abstract: On the basis of morphological examination, field investigation, observation of cultivated accessions and statistical analysis, the genus Miscanthus s.l. (Poaceae) from China was taxonomically revised. Two subgenera (Miscanthus subgenus Miscanthus and Miscanthus subgenus Diandranthus), two sections [Miscanthus subgenus Miscanthus section Miscanthus and Miscanthus subgenus Miscanthus section Triarrhena (Maximowicz) Honda], six species, two subspecies and four varieties in this genus were recognized in this repor… Show more

“…Among others, the genera Miscanthus, Saccharum and Erianthus belong to this subtribe [8]. The phylogeny of Miscanthus was first described by Andersson in 1856 [9]. Miscanthus was introduced into Europe by Aksel Olsen, who brought it from Japan to Denmark in 1935 (reported by Atienza et al [10]).…”

“…This can be attributed to the existence of natural interspecific hybrids, the famous one being M. × giganteus, issued [39,[51][52][53][54] from a cross between M. sacchariflorus and M. sinensis. Furthermore, the distribution of each Miscanthus species has not been fully investigated [9]. Miscanthus is closely related to other genera of the "Saccharum complex" (the Saccharum genera belonging to this complex) and Saccharum-Miscanthus hybrids, that is, miscanes, are used to create varieties of miscane [12].…”

“…1). Some comparative morphological and anatomical studies have been published on Miscanthus (Lee 1964a, b, c, d;Scally et al, 2001a, b;Sun et al, 2010). These studies helped define species boundaries, improved infrageneric classification and quantified morphological variation.…”

“…The most comprehensive effort to taxonomically subdivide the genus was made by Lee (1964a, b, c, d) (Fig. 2), with the highest species diversity being recorded in Eastern Asia, especially in China and Japan (Chen and Renvoize, 2006;Sun et al, 2010 Li et al (1948); Li and Ma (1951); Adati and Mitsuishi (1956); Adati (1958); Chen and Hsu (1962); Price (1963a, b); Price and Daniels (1968); Hodkinson et al ( , 2002c Hodkinson et al ( , 2002c Adati and Mitsuishi (1956); Adati (1958); Hirayoshi et al (1959) …”

“…Fortunately, many scholars have made lots of related researches on calibration methods and traceability, and have come to many important conclusions [3][4][5][6][7]. However, most of these researches consider Electronic Transformer and Merging Unit as a whole for calibrating, while the Digital Input Electricity Meters are calibrated separately, there are not many studies by considering all digital electric energy measurement device as a whole [8][9][10], and are still not very mature.…”
