A Systematic Study of Topography Effect of ERT Based on 3-D Modeling and Inversion

Abstract: In this study, a quick method using a digital elevation model (DEM) to obtain real terrain points for generating tetrahedral mesh has been developed, based on TetGen. Then threedimensional (3-D) forward modeling and inversion, based on the patching method of electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and which have been compared favorably with those obtained using other software, were used to study topography effect. Asystematic research of apparent resistivity features of different topographies with pole-pole ar… Show more

“…Because the perturbation vector in equation () has the characteristics of being large near electrodes and gradually decreasing to zero farther from electrodes, the perturbation resulting from each event appears as a patching process, which is why this approach is called the patching method (Zhou, Shimada, and Sato ; Lu et al . ). Additionally, the inversion scheme can be easily implemented in other arrays such as a Wenner array and a dipole–dipole array, which will be examined next using synthetic data.…”

“…By calculating the difference between the normal and back measurements, errors more significant than 15% were excluded from further calculation. Reasonable data were further calculated using the inversion method proposed by Lu et al [32,33] to obtain the soil resistivity value. However, the process will not be discussed here due to space limitations.…”
