“…Commercialized anticoagulants namely warfarin, dicoumarol, and phenprocoumon that are branded under the name Coumadin , Acadyl , and Marcoumar , respectively, as well as the antibiotic novobiocin that is licensed under the trade name Albamycin are compounds [4] containing the 4‐hydroxycoumarin motif shown in Scheme 1. Besides this commercialized use of 4‐hydroxycoumarin derivatives, there have also been other evidence of bioactivity as antimicrobial and antifungal agents, [5,6] cancer chemotherapeutic agent, [7] intestinal anti‐ inflammatory agent [8] and other pharmaceutical agents as reported elsewhere [9] . Furthermore, there are also growing reports on exploration of 4‐hydroxycoumarin derivatives as ligands of metal complexes of rare earth elements [10] and transition metals [11–13] like neodymium (III), copper (II), and palladium (II) in Scheme 2, which demonstrate bioactivities in their own respect.…”
