This paper discusses issues affecting the transport and mobility needs of people with disabilities in middle- and low-income countries and how disability intersects with a range of other factors to impact on transport needs, use and engagement. The paper is intended to stimulate discussion and identify areas for further research, and identifies a number of key issues that are salient to discussions around equitable and inclusive transport provision, including patterns of transport use, behaviour and experiences, solutions and policy directions, measuring access and inclusion, policies and intersectionality. The paper also identifies gaps in knowledge and provision, barriers to addressing these gaps, and some possible solutions to overcoming these barriers. These include shifting the focus from access to inclusion, reconceptualising how ‘special’ transport might be provided, and most importantly listening to the voices and experiences of adults and children with disabilities. Despite lack of transport often being cited as a reason for lack of inclusion of people with disabilities, there is surprisingly little evidence which either quantifies this or translates what this lack of access means to people with disabilities in their daily lives in low- and middle-income countries.

aims: Disabled people, particularly children and adolescents, tend to participate in less physical activity than their non-disabled peers on average. However, disabled children and youth (i.e., young people [YP]) are typically underrepresented in physical activity (PA) research, with little data available in Aotearoa New Zealand to guide policy makers to alter societal factors that contribute to disability inequities. The purpose of this study was to conduct a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of the PA sector in Aotearoa New Zealand with respect to PA participation and promotion among disabled YP. methods: Focus group discussions, underpinned by the SWOT framework, were facilitated with stakeholders (n=11) engaged in the Aotearoa New Zealand PA sector. Data were transcribed and analysed using content analysis. Desirable and accessible opportunities were essential enablers of PA in disabled YP. results: Communication, transport, equipment costs, awareness of activities, and social support were identified as factors that influence PA participation. Schools also have a considerable influence on PA participation among disabled YP, while greater funding for and cohesion/collaboration among PA providers is key to continued growth in PA participation. conclusions: Communication, accessibility, funding, and collaborative/coordinated multi-level efforts were identified as areas in need of strengthening to provide equitable opportunities for disabled YP in Aotearoa New Zealand to participate in PA.

Long-distance school commuting is a key aspect of students' choice of car travel. For cities lacking school buses, the metro and car are the main travel modes used by students who have a long travel distance between home and school. Therefore, encouraging students to commute using the metro can effectively reduce household car use caused by long-distance commuting to school. This paper explores metro ridership at the station level for trips to school and return trips to home in Nanjing, China by using smart card data. In particular, a global Poisson regression model and geographically weighted Poisson regression (GWPR) models were used to examine the effects of the built environment on students' metro ridership. The results indicate that the GWPR models provide superior performance for both trips to school and return trips to home. Spatial variations exist in the relationship between the built environment and students' metro ridership across metro stations. Built environments around metro stations, including commercial-oriented land use; the density of roads, parking lots, and bus stations; the number of docks at bikeshare stations; and the shortest distance between bike stations and metro stations have different impacts on students' metro ridership. The results have important implications for proposing relevant policies to guide students who are being driven to school to travel by metro instead.
