“…However, the underlying mechanisms of cross contamination are still poorly understood and, furthermore, many studies evaluating the efficacy of intervention strategies during processing have presented inconsistent and even contradictory results. One reason for such issues is that studies were conducted at the lab or pilot scale under specific conditions that leave their results difficult to synthesize (Bucher et al, 2012).…”

“…In our case, we chose meta-regression to attempt to explain the variation observed in our data as a function of study-and trial-level covariates. This analysis was expanded to all other primary processing interventions captured by the larger scoping study to increase the power of our meta-regression and is reported elsewhere (Bucher et al, 2011). Briefly, Salmonella serotype, disinfectant type, as well as treatment time and pH were significantly associated with studies reporting reductions in Salmonella concentration.…”

“…The efficacy of various on-farm and processing interventions, identified and prioritized at the scoping stage (Farrar, 2009), was investigated through multiple, separate SReMAs, reported elsewhere (Bucher et al, 2011). The review protocol was developed a priori and pre-tested at the scoping stage, prescribing replicable procedures for each step of the SR process and following the PRISMA statement guidelines (Moher, Liberati, Tetzlaff, Altman, & PRISMA Group, 2009).…”
