All solid state batteries with cathode composites containing high concentration of active materials are required to achieve higher energy densities. Here, a composite cathode containing up to 89 wt% of high voltage cathode active material (LiNi Mn Co O ) was prepared by covering this with a solution derived solid electrolyte (argyrodite, Li PS Cl) and the incorporation of different content binder (ethyl cellulose). All solid state batteries were fabricated using 80Li S•20P S (mol%) glass and indium metal as a solid electrolyte and anode, respectively. The all solid state battery with a composite cathode containing 0.5 wt% of ethyl cellulose showed an initial discharge capacity of 45 mAhg at 25 °C and maintained 91.7% of the discharge capacity after ten cycles, around 30% higher than that obtained for the battery with the composite cathode without a binder.

Li 3 PS 4 was synthesized from the reaction of Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 in several kinds of organic solvents with a carbonyl group, i.e. dimethyl carbonate (DMC), ethyl acetate (EA) and methyl propyl ketone (MPK) as a complex forming medium by liquid-phase shaking. XRD results showed that Li 2 S still existed in the sample prepared using MPK, whereas the reaction between Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 completed in DMC and EA media which then resulted in the formation of co-crystalline complex for EP and low crystalline complex for DMC, respectively. Ionic conductivities of Li 3 PS 4 obtained using MPK, MDC and EP were 3 × 10 −7, 6 × 10, and 2 × 10 −4 Scm −1 at room temperature, respectively.The results pointed out that ester group was suitable for facilitation of the reaction between Li 2 S and P 2 S 5 .

Lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries are one of the most promising next-generation battery types for their high energy density and low cost. On the other hand, safety issues and poor cyclability strongly limit practical application. Solidstate electrolytes (SSEs) can present as high ionic conductivity as aprotic electrolytes and eventually avoid the shuttle effect, which provides an ultimate solution for safe Li-S batteries with good cyclability. In this review, the recent achievements in all-solid-state Li-S batteries based on inorganic SSEs are summarized. Furthermore, the main attentions are paid to the interfaces, including metallic lithium|SSEs, SSEs|SSEs, and composite sulfur cathode|SSEs. The potential approaches to deal with these interfacial issues are proposed as well, such as composite SSEs with an asymmetric structure to enhance their compatibility with lithium anodes and sulfur cathodes, adding Li 2 O or LiF and increasing the densification to reduce the grain boundary resistance, and nanomaterials used to improve the kinetic process in cathode.
