A Suzaku sample of unabsorbed narrow-line and broad-line Seyfert 1 galaxies – I. X-ray spectral properties

Abstract: A sample of narrow-line (NLS1) and broad-line Seyfert 1 (BLS1) galaxies observed with Suzaku is presented. The final sample consists of 22 NLS1s and 47 BLS1s, for a total of 69 AGN that are all at low redshift (z < 0.5) and exhibit low host galaxy column densities (<1022  cm−2 ). The average spectrum for each object is fit with a toy model to characterise important parameters, including the photon index, soft excess, Compton hump (or hard excess), narrow iron line strength, luminosity and X-ray E… Show more

“…We have detected prominent Compton hump at energies E > 10 keV with the Suzaku observation (in 2009). (Waddell & Gallo 2020) and (Rivers et al 2011) using the same observational data from Suzaku detected the compton hump. The reflection parameter of the pexrav model obtained in our work (R = 0.17 ± 0.03) is similar to that obtained by Waddell & Gallo (2020), but is lower than that obtained by Rivers et al (2011), which is R = 0.69 ± 0.05.…”

With the more recent XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observations in 2016, we could only provide an upper limit on the normalization of the scattering model, indicating a probable absence of the Compton hump.…”

“…Naturally with the NlSy1 galaxies occupying extreme ends in some parameters space, it becomes imperative to understand the properties of these galaxies. In Grupe (2004), and more recently Ojha et al (2020b) and Waddell & Gallo (2020) the properties of NlSy1 galaxies have been studied comparatively with BlSy1 galaxies. In Grupe (2004), a sample of 110 X-ray selected galaxies was available, which is around 250 in our case, owing to the availability of SDSS sepctrum.…”

“…However, the geometry of the disc-corona system is still highly debated, as is the dominant emission process at work: either relativistic reflection resulting from the illumination of the accretion disc by a hot corona or the Comptonisation of seed photons from the accretion disc by a warm-hot corona (e.g. Magdziarz et al 1998;Porquet et al 2004;Crummy et al 2006;Bianchi et al 2009;Fabian et al 2012;Done et al 2012;Gliozzi et al 2013;Petrucci et al 2018;Gliozzi & Williams 2020;Waddell & Gallo 2020). Moreover, some AGN exhibit warm absorbers along the line-of-sight that can severely complicate the X-ray data analysis.…”
