A sustainable assessment model for material selection in construction industries perspective using hybrid MCDM approaches

Abstract: Purpose Urbanization and globalization in India have led to the depletion of resources and degradation of the environment to meet the demands. Because of these issues, researchers and practitioners have begun to study various strategies to reduce the level consumption of resources to utilize it for present and future needs. In pursuit of finding solutions to the problems, sustainable building construction is found as the best key to avoid depletion of resources. Sustainable material selection is found as a vit… Show more

“…The best criteria is the one with the most important role in decision-making, while the worst criteria has the opposite effect. This approach can be applied in many areas, e.g., various battery technologies in the residential grid storage market, sustainable material selection for building construction, and exploring the criteria for evaluating the green performance of airports [29,44,45]. The BWM is used in this study instead of AHP to determine the local weights for each criterion.…”

“…This sub-section outlines the scholarly study of green building related fields, directions of research in the past few years and ways in which they have been studied. The MCDM methods, AHP, BWM, DEMATEL, ANP, DANP, Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), and BWM, are widely adopted to explore green building material (GBM) assessment, green building management, and sustainable material selection for building construction [10,28,29]. The 15 articles with most relevant research field of green building indicators assessment are selected.…”

“…The proposed model can capture the interrelationships among multi-input arguments and can provide decision makers more options. Mathiyazhagan et al [7] frame an assessment model for evaluating and selecting sustainable building materials using a three-phase methodology i.e., triple bottom line (TBL)-best worst methodology (BWM)-Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). Khoshnava et al [8] implemented MCDM techniques to select energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, recyclable construction materials with regard to the technical, social, and environment aspects of sustainability.…”

“…In their method, step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis (SWARA) and COPRAS were applied. Mathiyazhagan, Gnanavelbabu, and Lokesh Prabhuraj (2019) introduced a three-phase methodology to evaluate construction materials. In the first phase, the criteria and the alternatives were identified.…”
