“…Advances in IA management have been achieved through improved rapid access pathways to drug therapy concurrent with novel developments in pharmacological options, both of which have significantly improved early and effective disease control and supported remission (Combe et al., 2017; Smolen et al., 2020). Despite these developments, IA has been found to have a widespread impact on people's participation in valued life roles (Codd, 2021). A person's life roles span across the domains of home, work and social life and are made up of essential, meaningful daily tasks which can be challenging to complete with IA.…”

“…However, despite these recommendations there is considerable variability in levels of multidisciplinary team involvement, and delivery of multidisciplinary interventions within current rheumatology services. Available resources are reportedly conditional on geographical location and are often impacted by suboptimal staffing levels within services (Codd et al., 2018; EUMUSC.net, 2013; HSE, 2018; NAO, 2009; The Kings Fund, 2009; Ndosi et al., 2017). Furthermore, traditional early arthritis clinics typically operate a gatekeeper system that controls when a referral is made for multidisciplinary involvement with subsequent delays in access to these services and negative consequences for clients' health management and health outcomes (Codd et al., 2018; NAO, 2009; Ndosi et al., 2017; Segan et al., 2017).…”

Nurse‐led clinics have been reported as offering value to patient care by providing support with treatment and medication management, multidisciplinary team referrals, and self‐management (Doumen et al., 2021; Hehir et al., 2008; Larsson et al., 2012).…”
