Assessing the mobile learning application among interdisciplinary researchers is a non-trivial task. Mandarin Learning App is a Mandarin 3D game tailor-made for students who choose PBC1033 Mandarin Language Level 1 as an elective course. It is an interdisciplinary project which it involves researchers from software engineering, computational science/mathematics and the Faculty of Language studies. In the project, the software engineer focuses on producing a quality application mostly through usability studies; the language teacher focuses on students' study performance upon using the Mandarin Learning App and the mathematician focuses on finding the statistical data dependency of collected data through the various statistical packages. Hence, we are facing issues like how to reach a consensus in working on assessing the Mandarin 3D games? How to enable the discussion among the researchers; how to consolidate the results so that we can understand? We introduce Goal Question Metric to tackle these issues. In this paper, we demonstrate how Goal Question Metric is used to form a holistic view of assessing requirements on mobile applications and guide the discussion and reach consensus in analyzing the results of the evaluation. The contribution of this paper is to introduce Goal Question Metric as an interdisciplinary tool while assessing the mobile learning application. With Goal Question Metric, we demonstrate how it can structure the assessment from a different viewpoint in a comprehensive and systematic manner; 1) better structure of the experiments, 2) able to reach consensus among researchers from different disciplines, 3) able to analyze the dependencies among various experiments and 4) able to find hidden results.

Innovation and challenges are significant factors that lead to the improvement in technology involving various sectors, including the educational field. New methods and techniques have been introduced in teaching and learning among learners and educators. Modern technology generates an effective learning process that increases the students' interest and understanding of learning activities. Hence, software engineers need to develop high-quality educational applications that include the required elements such as learning materials and types of assessments. In addition, it should align with stipulated guidelines, timelines, budgets, and policies. Adaptation of a checklist approach in developing educational software can improve the quality of the software significantly. The checklist approach appears to be more effective for developers, especially novices with limited knowledge in relevant evidence-based principles. This study investigates the checklist approach for novice software developers in developing educational applications. A survey was employed to gather data from a group of respondents. This study used two types of sampling methods which were purposive sampling and Yamane formula. It shows that 89.19% of the respondents had understood and benefited from the provided checklist.

Traditional learning methods have significantly changed with the adaptation of modern technologies. Teachers and students have become more interested to build their knowledge when exploring learning materials using various devices and applications. ISO/IEC 25010:2011 and ISO 9241-11:2008 are referred to regarding five quality characteristics in designing educational applications. This paper reports the comparative study that investigates the quality characteristics in existing educational applications by applying the Kirkpatrick Model, which comprises four logical levels in the educational process. The investigation of the quality characteristics involved four types of online educational applications. The analysis shows that more than half (56.66%) of the compared characteristics were not found in the selected educational applications. Thus, the study concludes that the compared educational applications remain to have issues if software developers or software engineers do not consider the five quality characteristics, which include user interface aesthetics, appropriateness recognisability, understandability, effectiveness and satisfaction from the users’ perspectives.
