A survey on QoE-oriented wireless resources scheduling

Abstract: Future wireless systems are expected to provide a wide range of services to more and more users. Advanced scheduling strategies thus arise not only to perform efficient radio resource management, but also to provide fairness among the users. On the other hand, the users' perceived quality, i.e., Quality of Experience (QoE), is becoming one of the main drivers within the schedulers design. In this context, this paper starts by providing a comprehension of what is QoE and an overview of the evolution of wireless… Show more

“…According to Sousa et al, 9 the estimation of QoE is influenced by several factors related to a system, service, application, the user's preferences, or context whose actual state or setting may have an influence on the QoE for the user. These factors can be categorized as a human, system, and contents based.…”

“…These can be the temporal aspects, like the day of the weak or time of the day, duration of the content and its popularity, and service type. 9 However, QoE can depend on the multiple factors mentioned above, and therefore, it may be measured by various qualitative and quantitative metrics. An application dependent QoE is quantified by a mean opinion score (MOS) value, which is calculated using the degree of subjective satisfaction for the end-users of a particular application.…”

“…In [32], the authors focused on RRM in cognitive radio by organizing the techniques into the four steps of spectrum sharing: spectrum sensing, spectrum allocation, spectrum access and spectrum handoff. Other surveys that included RRM as a part of their study are presented in [33] and [34], which emphasized wireless scheduling strategies based on quality of experience (QoE) awareness and interference mitigation techniques in femtocell networks, respectively. Compared to previous surveys, this study focuses on the RRM techniques for 5G HetNets, which will be different from the LTE/LTE-A HetNets.…”
