A survey on privacy and access control schemes in fog computing

Abstract: Summary To provide reliable data storage and retrieval services to the end users, the cloud service provider implements secure data storage, sharing, and retrieval mechanisms. However, the aforesaid services provided by cloud have certain pitfalls, such as decision latency and real‐time data computation. To address these aforementioned problems, fog computing was introduced for the purpose of providing cloud services at the network's edge. While this migration of the cloud services to the network's edge raises… Show more

“…Additionally, among many metrics, transaction throughput, type of IoT devices, the storage capacity of blockchain, the latency of the transaction's execution, and transactions cost highly impact the QoS of blockchain-based waste management applications. Considering the decentralized and self-governing nature of blockchain technology, it is difficult to optimize such parameters while ensuring high transaction execution transparency, security, and privacy [103]. Bitcoin platform's throughput is up to seven transactions per second.…”

“…Cloud computing stores and transmits large amounts of data. As a connection between cloud computing and IoT terminal devices, fog computing shares part of the computing work of cloud computing and terminal devices, and its low latency also speeds up data transmission [ 37 ]. Alrawais [ 38 ] and others proposed an attribute-based privacy protection scheme in fog computing, which saves the network overhead of the cloud platform and improves the efficiency of access control.…”

“…To address decision latency and real‐time data computation, security concerns such as trust, authentication, mobility, intrusion, network security, Khalid et al 10 discussed privacy and access control scheme for fog computing. This scheme shows how users can overcome different secure data storage and retrieval issues in fog computing.…”
